LIBRARY DEDICATION

On Wednesday. July 16, at 1400, the new Station Library was opened to the public for its first half day of actual operation. Miss Emma Sue Goree, Librarian, tastefully decorated the building with flowers. Miss Goree states that are 5,000 books ready for circulation and that more shipments are coming.

MRS. BARNETT PRESENTS PROGRAM

Last Wednesday night, July 16, a Negro Troupe under the able direction of Mrs. Marion Barnett of Corpus Christi, stages a Variety Show in the Recreation Hall. The program was well attended and was favorably received. A number of different acts, including a well-blended quartet and an exceptional tap dancer made up the hour program.

RECREATION CENTERS DEDICATED

The United States Naval Air Station was honored Friday and Saturday with the presence of Willie Hoppe, greatest billiard player of all times, Ned Day, National Match Game Bowling Champion, and Buddy Bomar, Texas Match Game Bowling Champion. These three champions gave exhibitions both Friday and Saturday in the enlisted Men’s Cadets’ and outlying field Bowling Alleys and Billiard Rooms, as part of the dedication ceremonies of these new recreation centers.

NEW EQUIPMENT BUILT

The temporary Recreation Hall has again made a step towards better equipping the smortsman. The boxers who have been training with only shadows for opponents now have a new boxing stand that will be completed this week. This stand will have eight punching bags on it, and the boxing teams are already using it. The athletic officers invite all men to use this equipment, and they hope that a large number of men will apply for this training.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

The USNAS Diving and Swimming teams held an exhibition show Sunday afternoon at the Corpus Christi Golf and Country Club at 1530. This was the third contest and exhibition that the team has participated in since the organization of it.
