Capt. Chris Jason Commanding Officer

This issue of the Wingspan that you are reading right now marks the end of an era as the final issue of this base newspaper.

As mentioned in the previous issue, we have reached a point where we have decided to commit limited media resources in a different direction.

We strongly believe that this new direction, focused on digital media and social media platforms, will reach a wider audience and allow greater feedback and more timely interaction with the public.

I place a great deal of value in our communication with our base population and with the public. Transparency is a value that I have emphasized from day one, and I will continue to do so.

I strongly believe that this shift will allow us to optimize limited resources to achieve the most effective and transparent communication possible.

I am excited for this shift to new and exciting media tools. Facebook will continue to be our primary platform, so I encourage you to join us on that official command Facebook page: www. facebook.com/NASCorpusChristi.

We plan to roll out some new features and new story types on this page, so be on the lookout! We will also continue to use this page to communicate essential information about drills, gate closures, and emergencies.

Based on the popularity of YouTube, we hope to take advantage of this platform with future video content, made possible by some new video equipment that we’re excited to try out. Stay connected to our Facebook page for future announcements and links!

Other information about our base will continue to be available on the official web page hosted by our parent command at: www.cnic.navy.mil/regions/cnrse/ installations/nas_corpus_christi.html. As always, our Public Affairs team is also reachable for your questions via email: nascc-pao@navy.mil.

Anyone familiar with the military knows that we like to develop strategies. The field of mass communication is no exception, and I assure you that we’ve taken a very deliberate look at our communications strategy to determine that this new direction is the right one. I’m excited to invite you along on this new and exciting path.

As I close out this article with a few final words, I want to thank Port Lavaca Times for years of outstanding support as our publisher. As much as we have enjoyed this partnership, we simply could not continue to support two different communication strategies with one staff.

So farewell to the Wingspan, but not to our readers: you’ll be hearing from us soon!
